If you are looking for a location to base yourself for a mountain bike holidays in Slovenia, look no further than Ruše.
Less than 1 hour proximity of 3 bike parks (Mariborsko Pohorje, Rogla and Kope), a huge network of signposted XC routes on unpaved roads, a number of trails hidden in the lush green woods with soft soil of Pohorje that look like they were just made for mountain biking, as well as some of the top trails you can imagine (Ruše also hosts SloEnduro series races for some time) make for a good starter.
But let us move on: there is a free bus for bikers to Maribor, Slovenia’s 2nd largest city. Besides if you want to pedal your way to Maribor, there is signposted bike route between Maribor and Ruše. Furthermore, the village boasts a pump track for those evenings when you don’t want to just chill, as well as a newly built dirt jump polygon. This year, there was also a really inexpensive public mountain bike shuttle that could take you to the top of the Pohorje hill, giving you more than 700 meters of vertical in exchange for less than 3 EUR.
If you are looking for cost-effective bike holidays around here, look no further. Ruše boasts all the amenities you can imagine, such as some decent supermarkets, a sports hall, and a pool for swimming, pizzeria, some restaurants, and even a hotel and a hostel. This year they have even build a small camper van resting area, so in case you are traveling with a camper van, you can spend a night or two there.
Besides, if you are ready to put in 1:30 of driving from the location, you can make a day trip to Europe’s longest flow trail on the amazing Petzen bike park, or a day trip to the Enduro/All Mountain trails on Jamnica Bike Park, close to Petzen.
This may look like a promo post, but the pure fact is, we are so very amazed by what is available here, and by how little tourism there is, that we just had to write about it. For years, we were visiting areas like Lake Garda, areas of New Zealand, Spain, and other destinations around the globe, sometimes purely for mountain biking. And in the meantime, our home mountain bike base developed so far and so well, that it’s just overwhelming.
So if you plan a bike trip to Slovenia – welcome. Drop us a line, and we can help you find the best option for a mountain biker’s stay, and even give you some tips on where to go and how. And we guarantee, if you come with a car, you will have something different to ride for the whole week, and won’t break your budget in the process.
Pin for later…

Wow, that’s a lovely way to explore these amazing parts of Slovenia. I haven’t been yet, but I can just imagine how much my family and I would enjoy all the trails on our bikes.
What an interesting way to explore a new place, you certainly will be getting “off-the-beaten-track”. Thanks for sharing all the info.
Great post! Haven’t been to Slovenia but think we’re definitely going to have to check it out after this post!

What a beautiful place to bike. I’d like to try the pump track too. I’ve never seen anything like that.
